The aim of the excursion was to give students a closer understanding of how European institutions function. They therefore visited the Parlamentarium as well as the headquarters of the European Committee of the Regions. The group also came to see the office of the Representation of the Pilsen Region in Brussels, where, in the representative premises, two Czech Members of the European Parliament were “grilled” by the students for two hours: Tomáš Zdechovský (European People’s Party / KDU-ČSL) and Ondřej Dostál (non-attached / Stačilo!). They were joined by former regional governor and member of the Committee of the Regions Rudolf Špoták (Greens and Progressives / independent) and Deputy Governor Martin Rybár (KDU-ČSL). The questions students asked the attending politicians clearly showed that they are interested in public affairs and that developments in our country are not indifferent to them.
The following day, before departing for home, the students also visited the historic center of Brussels and the iconic model of an iron atom enlarged 165 billion times – the Atomium.
