April 23, 2026 at 6:30 PM: Exhibition Opening on Bohumil Kone\u010dn\u00fd<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

The exceptional and now rediscovered painter and illustrator of the second half of the 20th century, Bohumil Kone\u010dn\u00fd<\/span><\/span>, was a master of dynamic adventure illustrations and drawings of beautiful women. Generations of \u201cHus\u00e1k\u2019s children\u201d and older audiences will recognize his illustrations from books by Jaroslav Foglar<\/span><\/span> and Otakar Batli\u010dka<\/span><\/span>. He was also the author of numerous advertising posters. His career was significantly affected by the controversy surrounding the comic heroine Amazona \u2013 Octobriana, who was admired even by David Bowie<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\r\n

K\u00e1ja Saudek<\/span><\/span> wrote about him: \u201cBohumil Kone\u010dn\u00fd influenced me the most\u2014a name that probably means nothing to anyone today. He was a man who, in 1937 or 1938, could do what only a few dozen painters in America can manage today. He was incomparable to anything. Even Zden\u011bk Burian<\/span><\/span>\u2014a renowned name I respect\u2014was an amateur compared to him. This Bohumil Kone\u010dn\u00fd, completely forgotten and unrecognized during his lifetime, was an absolute genius unlike any other. What I know, I learned from him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\r\n

As usual, refreshments will be provided by the well-known Brussels-based culinary specialist Ji\u0159\u00ed Sikora, and the atmosphere of the event will be enhanced by a vocal performance from students of the Gymnasium at Mikul\u00e1\u0161sk\u00e9 Square in Pilsen.<\/p>\r\n
